House Concert: Second Hand Suits and Katy Glorioso 3/23/13
There are two new acts on the Central PA music scene that I’m really excited about. So, why not host a concert with both in one night?!?
Second Hand Suits
I’ve been working with Jordan Rast since he was in the 8th grade, when we started recording his first solo album. Yeah, you read that right. Well, he’s 20 now and has recorded a few more albums since those days. A couple years ago, he put out a CD called Fractured Love and began playing the Lancaster area with a really solid band to support it. Last fall, Jordan and the rhythm section from that band (bassist Peter Reist and drummer Evan Graver) teamed up with guitarist and crooner Tuck Ryan to form what has become my favorite of all of Jordan’s past projects, Second Hand Suits. The Suits play original music infused with blues, folk, and gypsy jazz, combining their creative and theatrical talents to cultivate a new and exciting sound. Jordan and Tuck were recently featured on a podcast episode showcasing the young Lancaster music scene.
When the band first started they were called Unusual Suspects, at which time they recorded this video:
Katy Glorioso
Last fall I came across a video of Katy Glorioso on Facebook. It took me about 30 seconds to fall madly in love with her angelic voice, not to mention the instrumentation behind it that creates a fresh blend of jazz, blues, folk, and pop.
Earlier in 2012 she recorded her debut full-length album, Fine and Foolish, with Nashville producer Jeremy Casella. I was fortunate to have her on the podcast last December for a feature interview and chat about the album. Then, in January of this year I saw her perform at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia for the Central PA Showcase. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome her and guitarist Chris Flegal to the Wood Stove House for an intimate listening room set.
Here’s that first video that I saw last year:
