ATWS Podcast #76: Wood Stove House Update
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
This week we’re dedicating the show to things that are happening around the wood stove. Steve Carlson and I caught up on recent performing arts events in the area that we found particularly inspiring. Steve talked about the final performance for Camp MFE, a summer music camp held in Lancaster City by Music For Everyone and organized by Michael Jamanis. He also recently wrote a blog post about the experience.
I talked about a trip to York a few weeks ago to take in the premiere of a new documentary called A Day in the Sun by Brian Plow about the thriving art scene and arts renaissance taking place in our neighboring city to the west. You can read my full review here.
We also chatted about how performing arts groups are dealing with the limited number of dedicated venues in Lancaster by producing performances in found spaces. Tellus 360, an environmentally friendly furniture store that focuses on reclaimed wood, is hosting national acts in their showroom, concerts and theater events have been held at The Candy Factory, a co-working office, and bands and other groups are producing their own shows at The Community Room above Prince St. Cafe. There are also now six house concert series in Lancaster! We explored what this could mean for the area.
Finally, we chatted a bit about Creativity CON 2012, our one-day creativity conference coming up on October 20, 2012 at The Candy Factory. You can find more details about the conference here, or register here.
Coming up over the next few weeks, interviews with Rita King from The Parliament, York’s non-profit arts facilitator, Nick Mohler from the PA Guild of Craftsmen talking about Lancaster ArtWalk, October 6 and 7, and Kingsfoil introducing their new album, A Beating Heart is a Bleeding Heart.
